Sewing for Boys – the BOOK

So – word is out: Shelly and Karen from Patterns by Figgy’s have written a book – Sewing for Boys – which will be out in August this year. I am not only excited for my friends but even more so, because I designed some of the printed fabrics that are showcased in the book.

I have gotten a peek preview of the book and can only say: It’s gorgeous.
The photography is beautiful, the layout clean, the projects spot on. There will be a sewing project for everyone, the sewbie and the sewing fluent. There are wardrobe staples like the tee, and funky pants and dressy jackets and shirts.

What’s extremely exciting for me right now however,  is the fact that I’ll be meeting up with the two gals tomorrow in Utah. It’s Quilt Market and I will dive into the quilting world. It’s kind of scary as I would have never considered myself a quilter – but after last month and all the QfQ sewing madness, I must have officially become one. And most of all, try to find a manufacturer who is interested in commercializing some of the prints featured in the book. If you want to see a couple of pics, you’ll have to hop over here.

Thanks to the awesome publisher (Wiley Publishing Inc.) who gave me access to all the beautiful photographs (shot by Studio Christie), I can present a polished little portfolio book. To the left a couple of handouts that I can leave with folks that are interested.

Wish me luck!

Christmas preparation

I am really becoming addicted to making all things handmade. While being at Paper Zone last week to pick up some simple paper items, I discovered this handy desktop mini Letterpress machine, I was in serious trouble. Seriously? Should I spend money on gadgets and machinery before even having finished all Christmas presents? Anyways. I caved in.

So far, it was a pretty good investment. Andy and I worked together creating our Christmas cards and present tags, cut out snow stars and deers for Christmas decoration and even L. had a blast cranking through some cards.

Screenprinting

Just a couple of pics from yesterday’s open print studio at Modern Domestic.
I tried my luck with printing white on dark colored cloth. Was pretty hard as the paint was very gooey. But with Susanna’s help I was able to get some good results.

Susanna, MD’s lovely printing instructor, who’s beautiful product is currently available at a trunkshow at MD. So if you are on Alberta, you should check it out!

Magical Tie Dye – Shabd Simon-Alexander

♥ Oh so desirable tie dye items. This summer, I need, need, need to try this technique. Shabd’s items are so beautiful. The bikini on the bottom right is a collab with Mociun. I wish I were in Brooklyn to take one of Shabd’s classes. ♥

Threadless and Guilt Limited Tees

pics found on  Stylehunting

Looking around for inspiration for prints I came across these RAD (*Shelly knows why I call it such) graphics. These are limited edition boys tees by Threadless, a graphic tee community that invites artists to submit graphics which are entered in competitions, then printed and sold through the site. It’s Threadless’s 10th anniversary and they are available exclusively through Gilt Groupe. In case you haven’t heard from Gilt yet – It’s kind of a fixed members-only online Designer Trunkshow that sells styles up to 70% off MSRP. And that legally.

Here some more awesomeness:
